What is SmartLipo Laser Lypolosis?

SmartlipoLaser Lypolosis is a laser body sculpting procedure that is used specifically for fat reduction and body toning. Smart Lipo allows aesthetic physicians to destroy and permanently eliminate fat cells and coagulate tissue for tighter skin. This method is ideal for treating localized fat deposits on the face, neck, arms and throughout the body, including more challenging regions of high vascularity and flaccidity (flabby skin).

How Does Smartlipo Work?

Smartlipo is a ND:YAG laser that delivers thermal energy to subcutaneous fat cells, thus causing them to rupture and shatter. When this happens the tissue coagulates, this process causes collagen retraction to be induced and tissue tightening occurs. Unlike other lasers that perform similar procedures, the Smartlipo laser is able to differentiate between fat and other structure in the body, making it more precise and effective in removing only  unwanted fat cells.

What Should I Expect During This Procedure?

Smartlipo uses a small tip to deliver the laser into the body – this tip is called a cannula. The cannula is inserted into a 1 – 2mm incision in the skin where there are fat deposits. The cannula is moved in a back and forth motion below the skin and as it comes in contact with the fat cell membranes they rupture and release fatty oil from the fatty cells. The end product is then aspirated from the area.

This laser’s hemostatic properties coagulate the underlying vessels resulting in less bleeding, bruising, trauma and down time then the traditional Lipo Suction procedure.

The Smartlipo procedure lasts approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour for each area that is treated, and in most patients only one treatment is required.  This FDA approved procedure is done under local and tumescent anesthesia, and can be performed only by a physician.

Consequently, the procedure typically only needs to be performed once to any desired area for fat reduction.
